There’s nothing like foreign patterns. Schoeller Stahl and Adriafil have equally confusing parts too. Those Phildar patterns are beautiful though! I love the colors you chose for that top.

Holy crap, what is up with knitting pattern translators? The Rebecca pattern I just finished had equally strange translation difficulties.

double ack ~ i’m soooo behind! sorry!! my sisters leave tonight ;( but at least that means my knitting time will return and i will try all this week to catch up a bit! i agree with you – mind fart totally. the suggestions you’ve gotten sound good to me, though it all makes me go a little cross-eyed

It sounds to me like they are talking about shapping on both sides. If you cast off 7 stitches at the begining of one row, work acriss. Turn the work. This is the “following alternate row” Cast off 12 at the beg of this row and work across. Turn cast off 7 st work across. turn cast of 11. then just continue the shapping on the one side.I knit a lot of Italian patterns and have the same problems with wonky translations.

Yep, major brain fart here too.My advice would be first to contact Miss Becky. Then I would go to the french pattern and try to decipher it there. I translated one once, and with the nice schematics they give it wasn’t too bad. Which pattern is it? If I have it, I’ll give a shot at the translation. My gut instinct is that they forgot the cast off directions for the middle of the neck shaping. So maybe the direction before is “Cast off the middle 30 stitches and work each side separately” or something like that. Then the 12 and 11 stitches would be at the neck side and the 7 stiches at the shoulder side, or vice versa. Good luck!
